In 2019, the Rat Driving Experiment showed that rats can actually learn to drive tiny cars made of plastic jars to get treats. By touching copper wires to steer, the animals didn't just reach their food, but they also became much less stressed because of the satisfaction of learning a new skill. The study found that rats living in more natural settings were better drivers than those in plain cages, and the positive change in their brain chemistry suggests that doing challenging tasks could help
